In a ceremony held in Mexico City at Piso 51 Club on 22 July and with distinguished guests present, Mr. Abraham Tijerina was celebrated as the new Chair on the IMS International Steering Committee.

Mr. Luis Torreblanca
The ceremony was opened by Mr. Luis Torreblanca, Deputy Director for Technology Development and Innovation at CONACYT. He acknowledged this opportunity for Mexico to lead IMS and discussed the relevant R&D program in Mexico. He was also reviewed the large amount of ear-marked funds available for IMS projects.
Mr. Tijerina thanked his colleagues for the trust placed in him, the former chairman, Mr. Kiggans, and gave a bright outlook for IMS in the future.
Mr. Abraham Tijerina served as the Mexican Head of Delegation to IMS prior to this appointment. He is the Coordinator of the Innovation Management process at Metalsa SA de CV, a leading global corporation for Design, Development and Manufacturing of Automotive Structural Components. He has worked at Metalsa since 1992 where he has occupied different positions in Engineering, Technology and Innovation.

Mr. Abraham Tijerina
Among his main activities are the Integration and Management of Metalsa’s Innovation Project Portfolio, the Collaboration Program with Technological Partners and Universities, the Intellectual Property Portfolio and the External Funding Schemas for Innovation.
Mr. Tijerina has served as Member of the Technical Board of Mexico’s National Technology Award Foundation and the Nano-Technology Cluster. Currently at the Automotive Cluster, the Industrial Chamber in the estate of Nuevo Leon and Head of the Mexican Delegation of the Intelligent Manufacturing System (IMS).
He received his M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering Tecnologico de Monterrey (ITESM) and his Mechanical Engineering degree from Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
